Centre Director

  • Oxfordshire/South East
  • Job reference 14036
  • Location Oxfordshire/South East
  • Duration Permanent

We seek an experienced Centre Director or Senior Leisure Operator in Oxfordshire, for an existing 380,000 sqft shopping centre undergoing significant change including the development of an adjacent 80,000 sqft Leisure scheme.

Overview: We’re supporting a notable managing agent with a one-of a kind opportunity: the appointment of a Centre Director for a mixed-use retail and leisure development in Oxfordshire. The property’s landlord has a long-term vision for the enhancement of the local area and this person will be integral in that aspiration.

The scheme has a strong retail focus and the leisure development due for opening in Q1 2021 will further enhance this with the addition of a range of leisure operators, with several pre-lets already agreed. There are additional initiatives in place including mall refurbishment, new public wc’s and launch of a specialist F&B market to be launched over the next 18 months

The employer is an organisation that has helped its clients shape some of the UK’s largest property development projects and place their people at the heart of their business – they recognise that by identifying, supporting and promoting their people they will be able to provide continued outstanding service to clients. The organisation actively participates in graduate training programmes and has a strong reputation for people development. As a result, many of its client relationships span decades of working successfully together.

The landlord has aspirational plans for the scheme and local area, to deliver an exceptional new offering for the local community which includes upgrades on the existing shopping centre too. With the community at the heart of everything they’re planning, construction works will be phased to minimise the impact on the local community and regular communications will be shared to ensure they stay informed.

Purpose of the role

  • Manage, market and operate the Centre to the very highest of professional standards;
  • Ensure contractors carry out their work to an appropriate standard, on time and on budget;
  • Be the ‘face’ of the Centre within the local community. Develop excellent lines of communication with all stakeholders including Centre Management staff, contractors, customers, community and the owner of the Centre;
  • Develop strong relationships with all Tenants to thoroughly understand business objectives and constraints and maximise retail sales opportunities;
  • Deliver a Guest Experience that is memorable, one of a kind and outstanding;
  • Create and manage events that inspire and surprise and support the Centre as a day out destination;
  • Set, manage and monitor the annual service charge budget.

Successful candidate

  • Experienced Centre Director or senior operator in the Leisure sector;
  • Exposure to redevelopment/development/launch projects and an understanding of associated hurdles and pressures;
  • Sound understanding of the challenges facing UK retail and leisure in the current climate;
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial management;
  • A leader with the ability to inspire teams to deliver outstanding service;
  • Creative, outgoing, go-getting.

This really is a spotlight role…
